Advancing Real-Time Material Characterization with PlasmaSens

SirenOpt is designing and delivering a new materials manufacturing metrology platform, PlasmaSens, that relies on cold atmospheric plasma to nondestructively excite materials in real-time and then uses machine-learning powered analytics to analyze the rich and diverse raw data that is generated by the cold atmospheric plasma. PlasmaSens can report property measurements, find anomalies and defects in many types of coated materials

To build and validate this metrology solution, SirenOpt adopted the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater from infinityPV, chosen for its compact form factor, flexibility, and high-performance features that make it ideal for rapid deployment in their laboratory.

The Need for Flexibility in Developing a New Platform

Developing PlasmaSens required a roll-to-roll platform that could support significant process and parameter development. SirenOpt needed a configurable, modular system that could be quickly adapted to different materials and conditions, with a focus on applications such as battery electrode production, while retaining the potential to expand into other markets.

SirenOpt’s Experience with the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater

James Carrington, Vice President at SirenOpt, shared SirenOpt’s experience using the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater:

We chose infinityPV's Laboratory Roll-to-Roll system as it provided the best combination of features & performance in a compact form factor that could be easily deployed in our lab.

The infinityPV system is very flexible and configurable, which has proven to be essential as we bring up our new platform in its first roll-to-roll implementation and work through substantial process and control parameter development efforts. This development effort is targeting battery electrode production but can be extended into many other markets as well.

We were able to bring up our initial prototype system within a month after its delivery to us and the infinityPV system has been fairly easy to configure and control. The service and support provided by infinityPV has also been solid and straightforward.

How the Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater Supports SirenOpt’s Mission

With the help of infinityPV’s Laboratory Roll-to-Roll Coater, SirenOpt has been able to rapidly prototype its PlasmaSens platform, accelerating the path toward real-time, non-destructive characterization tools for advanced manufacturing. The flexibility and reliability of the coater allow SirenOpt to push the boundaries of metrology, ultimately enabling higher production quality, faster R&D cycles, and more intelligent manufacturing processes.
